Our Story

Beginning

The Curried Spirits

We’re Punnya and Sheril — a couple who loves good food, good wine, good company, and hosting dinners that somehow stretch from appetizers to existential conversations. Naturally, when we combined all of this with our roots, The Curried Spirits was born.

The name reflects exactly who we are

Curried — because food is how we express love.
Spirits — because we enjoy a good glass… and even better company.

And honestly, we try to keep good spirits alive in everything we do.

A heritage passed down through generations

Why Spices? Why Us?

Our story stretches back over 80 years. Punnya’s grandfather owned spice farms in Idukki, in the lush Western Ghats of Kerala, India — one of the world’s richest spice regions.

Cardamom, black pepper, coffee — grown traditionally, respectfully, and sustainably. The knowledge of how to cultivate and grade true high-quality spices is a heritage passed down through generations.

Why Kerala?

  • Kerala’s biodiversity is one of the richest on earth: The Western Ghats, where many spices grow, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a global biodiversity hotspot.
  • The search for Kerala spices changed world maps: European powers—including the Portuguese, Dutch, and British—competed fiercely to control Kerala’s spice-rich coastline.
  • Generational expertise: Kerala’s smallholder farmers pass down spice cultivation knowledge through generations—hand-harvesting, sun-curing, and processing with time-honored techniques that preserve purity and flavor.
  • Home of iconic peppers: The world-renowned Tellicherry pepper and Malabar pepper originate from Kerala’s fertile coastal and highland regions.

So when we say Kerala produces some of the best spices in the world, it’s not marketing — it’s heritage, geography, and generational knowledge.

Honestly, we didn’t learn spices from YouTube. We grew up in it.

While most people were stocking up on toilet paper, we were panicking about spices

The Pandemic Twist

When our home supply ran out and we tried store alternatives, the spices tasted like memories that expired long ago — dull, faded, lifeless.

So we reached out to family and farmers back home, brought spices directly, and shared them with friends.

Their reaction said it all:

“This is what spices are supposed to taste like?”

And that’s when we knew: more people deserve to taste spices the way they’re meant to be.

Spices shouldn’t just season food — they should tell a story

What We Believe

Spices should be fresh
Farmers should be paid fairly
Farming should be respectful and sustainable
Flavor should be vibrant, bold, and unforgettable

We removed the middle-person and now work directly with our family and small farmers who share our values. We bring spices from harvest to your kitchen quickly, preserving aroma, character, and potency.

Because spices shouldn’t just season food — they should tell a story.

Fresh | Flavorful | Fair

Welcome to The Curried Spirits

Where food is love.
Spices are stories.
And good spirits are always close by.

We’re grateful you’re here — and we can’t wait to cook with you.
