Jamu – Turmeric Ginger Drink

Jamu Juice

Turmeric & Ginger Wellness Drink
A vibrant, golden drink made with The Curried Spirits Ground Turmeric — ginger, lemon, coconut water and gentle sweetness with honey.

Prep: 10 mins | Cook: Optional 20 mins | Total: 10–30 mins | Yield: ~8 small servings

Jamu is a traditional Indonesian drink known for its vibrant color and bold, grounding warmth. This version keeps it simple and spice-forward — using The Curried Spirits Ground Turmeric in place of fresh turmeric. Fresh ginger brings brightness, lemon adds lift, and a touch of honey rounds everything out. Enjoy it chilled as a daily tonic, or warm as a soothing cup.

Ingredients

For the Jamu Base

  • 2 tsp The Curried Spirits Ground Turmeric (equivalent to 1 cup roughly chopped fresh turmeric). If new to turmeric drinks, begin with 1 tsp and gradually increase to 2 tsp as your palate adjusts.
  • 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, roughly chopped
  • 4 cups coconut water (or filtered water)
  • A small pinch of The Curried Spirits Black Peppercorn (optional, recommended)

To Finish

  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 3 tbsp)
  • 2 tbsp honey (adjust to taste)

Method

  1. Blend: Add ground turmeric, ginger, coconut water, and black pepper (if using) to a high-speed blender. Blend for about 1 minute until smooth.
  2. Optional simmer: Pour the blended mixture into a pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for up to 20 minutes. This step is optional. Simmering deepens the flavor and softens the ginger's sharpness. Skip it if you prefer a fresher, brighter profile.
  3. Finish: Remove from heat (if simmered). Stir in lemon juice and honey while still warm.
  4. Strain & store: Strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a glass jar. Refrigerate and enjoy within 4–5 days.

Serving Notes

  • Serve chilled as a morning wellness shot or warm gently before serving for a soothing drink.
  • If the drink tastes very bold, dilute with a little extra coconut water or filtered water.
  • Black pepper is optional but recommended for enhancing curcumin absorption.
  • This drink is often enjoyed as a wellness tonic in small servings (about ½ cup shots) due to its concentrated flavor.

Why Use Ground Turmeric?
